I started this business in 1992 as a sophomore at Henderson High School in West Chester, Pennsylvania. At the time, business networking was still in its infancy, and I began using the computer and networking skills I had developed at home to help several local companies build and support their technology.

I continued supporting those businesses throughout my years at Henderson and while attending Penn State. After college, I returned to Chester County and continued building the business, with an early focus on manufacturing companies, ERP systems, business networks, servers, and day-to-day IT support.

In 2004, I hired my first technician, and that became one of the most important turning points in the history of the company.

Like a lot of people who start a technical business, I had built the company around my own knowledge and ability to solve problems. Hiring technicians who were more technically capable than I was in certain areas required a bit of an ego check. It also turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made for the business.

I learned that my job wasn't to be the smartest technician in the room. My job was to build a team of exceptionally capable people, give them the tools and support they needed, and create an environment where they could work together to solve problems better than any one person could on their own.

That philosophy still shapes Vector IT Group today.

In 2005, I opened West Chester Computer Doctors, our former retail computer store, with a simple goal: provide the West Chester community with knowledgeable technical support, honest advice, and a level of service that was increasingly difficult to find.

The idea came after an experience at a large retail store where I watched inexperienced technicians give customers poor advice and recommend hardware that clearly did not fit their needs. I believed people deserved better.

For nearly 20 years, we successfully operated both businesses side by side: our retail computer operation and our growing business IT services practice.

In 2018, we rebranded our business-to-business IT division as Vector IT Group. The change helped distinguish who we really were. We were not a retail computer shop trying to move into commercial IT support. In reality, we had been providing professional business technology services for decades and had later added a retail operation.

Around that same period, we transitioned our business support model from traditional hourly and ad-hoc IT support to a fully managed services model.

We were actually somewhat late to make that transition because I had concerns about the way many Managed Service Providers operated. Too often, businesses were being charged significant monthly fees without receiving much additional value beyond the promise that someone would be available when something broke.

That was not the kind of MSP I wanted Vector IT Group to become.

What changed my perspective was the development of centrally managed security and infrastructure tools that allowed us to proactively protect and manage our clients' environments. Endpoint Detection and Response, automated patch management, cloud backup, system monitoring, Microsoft 365 security, and other technologies made it possible for an MSP to deliver measurable value every day — not just when there was a problem.

Since then, our technology stack and capabilities have grown tremendously.

Today, Vector IT Group provides comprehensive Managed IT Services and IT Support to small and mid-sized businesses throughout West Chester and Chester County, PA. Our services include cybersecurity, endpoint protection, Microsoft 365 management, backup and disaster recovery, server and network management, hardware procurement, strategic IT planning, and responsive end-user support.

After COVID, it became clear that the retail side of our business had changed considerably. Although West Chester Computer Doctors represented only a small percentage of our revenue, it consumed a disproportionate amount of our team's time and attention. In 2024, we made the difficult decision to close the retail operation and dedicate 100% of our resources to supporting business clients.

That decision has allowed us to focus completely on what we do best: providing professional, proactive, and highly responsive IT support to Chester County businesses.

One of the things I am most proud of is our team.

Vector IT Group is made up of talented local technicians, engineers, managers, and support professionals who genuinely care about the businesses we support. Most of our employees have been with us for more than five years, and several have been part of our team for more than a decade.

That continuity matters.

Our clients are not constantly being handed off to unfamiliar technicians. Our team gets to know their businesses, their employees, their systems, and their priorities. We view every client engagement as a long-term relationship, and we work hard to make recommendations that are genuinely in the client's best interest.

We operate from our office in the Borough of West Chester, where our open and collaborative environment allows our technicians and engineers to share ideas, troubleshoot complex issues together, and work as a team.

Our managed IT support plans typically include unlimited remote support. We structure our service this way for an important reason: we want employees to contact us whenever something is not working properly — not only when a problem becomes serious enough to justify the cost of opening a support ticket.

We have seen firsthand what happens when businesses move from pay-per-ticket support to unlimited IT support. Employees stop ignoring small problems. Minor issues get resolved before they become major ones. Productivity improves. Frustration decreases. And management can simply tell employees, "If you have an IT problem, call Vector."

That is exactly how IT support should work.

Vector IT Group is currently looking to partner with more small and mid-sized businesses throughout Chester County, typically organizations with approximately 5 to 150 users, that want professional, responsive, and straightforward IT support.

We believe businesses should be able to trust their IT company.

No unnecessary complexity. No recommending technology simply because it generates more revenue. No hiding behind technical jargon.

Just experienced people providing honest advice, strong cybersecurity, reliable technology, and exceptional support.

We've been doing that in West Chester and Chester County since 1992.

And we intend to keep doing it for a very long time.
